Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has arrested Rezaul Haque aka Reza, the acting amir of banned militant outfit Jama'atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB), in Dhaka.
He also goes by the name Tanvir Mahmud aka Shihab aka Ahnaf, 37.
DMP Joint Commissioner M Elias Sharif said the Special Action Group Division of the CTTC unit conducted a special drive in the Badda area on Saturday afternoon and arrested him, reports UNB.
Elias said Rezaul is also the chief of the Da'wah and Baitulmal department of the militant outfit.
He was conducting JMB activities across the country as per the directives of top JMB leader, fugitive Salahuddin Salehin.
Rezaul was arrested for involvement in a series of bomb attacks in the country in 2005.
In 2017, he secured bail and became involved in the activities of JMB again.
Two cases filed against him with GRP and Airport police station are undergoing trial.
According to the CTTC, Rezaul is the only Shura member of the militant outfit.
