At least three workers sustained burn injuries in a gas explosion at Jamuna Shipbreakers Yard in Chittagong’s Sitakunda upazila on Sunday.
Injured Md Pilot, 22, Md Samad, 40, and Md Jihad, 18, were admitted to the Burn Unit of Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH).
Abul Kalam Azad, officer-in-charge (OC) of Sitakunda police station said the incident happened at around 11:30am while the workers were cutting a scrap ship at Shitolpur.
After the incident, the yard authorities rescued the injured workers and took them to CMCH.
There was oil inside the pipe and the blast happened when a spark while cutting came in contact with the oil, leaving the three injured, he added.
Meanwhile, officials from various government bodies visited the way to the spot to assess the damage.
