Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) on Monday detained three drug dealers along with the highly stimulant contraband drug crystal meth, also known as “ice”, in Patharghata area under the Kotwali police station in Chittagong city.
The detainees were identified as Shahidul Islam Tipu, 28, of Purba Batua in Patia, Kazi Aminur Rashid, 48, of Yaqub Nagar in Firingi Bazar of Kotwali and Md Simon Tarek, 49, of Gujra in Noapara of Raozan.
The elite force seized a total of 975 grams of the contraband “ice” from the trio which has a street value of around Tk1 crore.
Confirming the matter, RAB 7 Assistant Director Md Nurul Absar said the detainees were handed over to the Kotwali police station after they were sued under the Narcotics Control Act over the possession of illegal contrabands.
Earlier on February 24, a team of RAB 8 similarly detained two persons with 140 grams of “ice” in Chittagong’s Khulshi area.
What is ice?
According to the Melbourne-based Alcohol and Drug Foundation, crystal methamphetamine, also known as “Ice” is a stimulant drug which speeds up the neural transmission between the brain and the body.
It’s stronger, more addictive and therefore has more harmful side effects than the powder form of methamphetamine known as “speed.”
“Ice” usually comes as small chunky clear crystals that look like ice. It can also come as white or brownish crystal-like powder with a strong smell and bitter taste. “Ice” is also known as: crystal meth, shabu, crystal, glass, and shard.
