At least 17 people have died as a microbus caught fire after head-on collision with a Hanif Paribahan bus in Rajshahi's Katakhali area this afternoon.
Police have recovered 11 charred bodies, including two children, from the microbus, our Rajshahi staff correspondent reported quoting Bibhuti Ranjan Sarkar, deputy commissioner of Rajshahi Metropolitan Police (Motihar Circle).
Six persons were declared dead at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital while two are undergoing treatment, hospital sources confirmed.
Identities of the victims were yet to be ascertained.
The accident occurred when a Dhaka-bound Hanif Paribahan bus collided head on with a microbus at 2:00pm in Katakhali area, said RMP Additional Deputy Commissioner Golam Ruhul Kuddus.
Both vehicles were recklessly speeding, police said.
