Govt to procure 33.60 lakh MMBtu LNG from USA

The government will procure some 33.60 lakh MMBtu LNG from M/S Excelerate Energy LP, United States with around Taka 448.17 crore in a bid to meet the growing demand.

The approval came from the 23rd meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Government Purchase (CCGP) in this year held Saturday virtually with Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal in the chair.

Briefing reporters after the meeting virtually, Cabinet Division Additional Secretary Md Shamsul Arefin said that Petrobangla would procure such quantity of LNG where the unit price for per MMBtu LNG would total $13.42.

He informed that the day's CCGP meeting approved a total of 16 proposals.

Out of the approved proposals, Shamsul said Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) would procure 7 tugboats from Dockyard and Engineering Works operated by Bangladesh Navy under the Direct Procurement Method (DPM) with around Taka 97 crore.

The meeting approved a proposal for appointing the joint venture of Northwest Hydraulic Consultants Ltd. Canada, Inros Lackner SE, Germany, Haskoning DHV, Netherlands BV in association with CEGIS, Bangladesh, DDC Ltd, Bangladesh, SPMC Bangladesh and KMC Bangladesh with around Taka 46.30 crore as Consultants for conducting feasibility and framing detailed design under the "Coastal Embankment Improvement Project, Phase-1 (CEIP-1).

Prior to the CCGP meeting, the 19th meeting on the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) was held today virtually with Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal in the chair.

The meeting approved a proposal in principle to reduce the timeframe for submitting tender bids to 15 days from 42 days from the publication date of advertisements in the newspapers as the government would procure 2 lakh metric tons of wheat from Russia under DPM method while another 3 lakh metric tons of wheat under open tendering method.
