Former Robi Axiata managing director and CEO Mahtab Uddin Ahmed has filed a lawsuit against the telecom company, its board chairman, and the former group CEO, demanding Tk227 crore in retirement benefits and compensation for "wrongful dismissal."
Ahmed was appointed CEO of Robi back in 2016.
The announcement states that on August 2 of 2021, the former CEO sent Robi his notice of resignation, effective as of September 31.
The board of directors of Robi unconditionally accepted the resignation letter after three days following his resignation.
According to a statement made by Ahmed's attorney Hassan MS Azim, the lawsuit was filed by Ahmed on August 22 before the Dhaka 1st Court of Joint District Judge.
Axiata Group and the Robi board were informed of the accounting transactions that had taken place in 2019, two days after accepting Ahmed's resignation on August 7, 2021, according to the statement.
Robi then initiated a departmental procedure by serving Ahmed with a show cause notice.
A little over nine and a half months after accepting the resignation, on May 22, 2022, Robi terminated Ahmed from his roles.
Ahmed’s lawyer in a press release said: "The dismissal of our client on May 22 2022 was done by a vested quarter with an ulterior motive and it was based on certain allegations which are absolutely false and baseless as has been found in the Financial Statements of 2021 prepared by Robi Management which was audited by Hoda Vasi Chowdhury and Co, an external independent audit firm."
According to its Financial report for 2021, the allegation of accounting irregularities is entirely untrue, he added.
Robi's Chief Corporate and Regulatory Officer, Mohammed Shahedul Alam, stated that no information on the matter has yet been received.
