Bangladesh Jewellers Samity opened its new office at Bashundhara City Shopping Complex in the capital, Dhaka, on Tuesday. Commerce minister Tipu Munshi inaugurated the office in a ceremony at the trade body’s new office as chief guest.
Tipu hoped that the country’s jewellers would pay an important role in achieving the government-set target of becoming a developed country by 2041. He said that the government had developed a policy for the jewellery industry considering the immense potential of the sector.
‘We should not depend on import of jewelleries rather there is a potential to gain share on the export market as we have a large number of skilled and traditional workforce in the sector.’ Bashundhara Group chairman Ahmed Akbar Sobhan, BJUS president Sayem Sobhan Anvir and general secretary Dilip Kumar Agarwal also spoke at the event.
