Communist Party of Bangladesh on Friday demanded an immediate abolishment of the Digital Security Act and the release of the 10 students who had been arrested at a rally protesting at the death of writer Mushtaq Ahmed in jail.

The demands came from a protest rally held in front of the National Press Club.

Speakers at the program said that the government was ‘exploiting the law to hush up the voices of opposition parties.’

CPB president Mujahidul Islam Selim said that the Awami League government did not tolerate criticisms by opposition parties. They are using Digital Security Act to hush up their voices, he said.

He also demanded the immediate release of the 10 detained student leaders who had been arrested at a protest rally protesting at the death of writer Mushtaq Ahmed in jail recently.

Selim also called on the government to abolish DSA immediately.

CPB presidium members Sajjad Zahir Chandan, Abdullah Kafee Ratan, central leaders Abdul Kader and Joly Talukder, Zia Haider Sakhawat Fahad, Mamata Chakraborty and others spoke at the rally.

The rally was followed by a protest procession that paraded different city roads.
