Bangladesh national cricket team is expected to resume their training on August 15 ahead of the New Zealand series after a five days’ vacation following the recently concluded Australia series, said Habibul Bashar, selector of the national team.
‘We are expecting to commence the primary training sessions with 22-25 members from August 15 onwards,’ Bashar said on Wednesday. Bashar also informed that the selection panel will declare the preliminary squad for the series against the Kiwis within the next couple of days. That squad will train for a week and then the selectors will trim it down to the final squad, which will enter the bio-security bubble. ‘Players of the final squad will enter the bio-bubble on August 25. The final squad may consist of 20, 18 or 17 members.’ Ace all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan won’t be available during the preliminary training as he is set to fly to the USA to be with his family but he is expected to return before the team enters the bubble, said Bashar. ‘Shakib will directly join the bio-bubble after returning from the USA on August 25.’
Meanwhile, on Wednesday, BCB’s chief executive officer Nizamuddin Chowdhury said, the board will apply the same security measures as the Australia series for the forthcoming New Zealand series to ensure everyone’s safety. ‘Since it is a back-to-back series, they will want to be given the same facilities as Australia. We will also try to ensure it as much as possible. Because health and safety is not just an issue for Australia, New Zealand and other foreign teams, we also need to keep our players safe.’ The Black Caps are set to arrive in Dhaka on August 24 to play five Twenty20 internationals against the Tigers. The matches between Bangladesh and New Zealand are scheduled on September 1, 3, 5, 8 and 10 respectively at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium.
