Bangladesh ODI skipper, Tamim Iqbal, has opted out of the lone Test against Zimbabwe because he has not fully recovered from the knee injury. However, if the pain lessens, he may be able to play in ODIs, which are part of the ICC ODI World Cup Super League.

Tamim sustained a knee injury during the two-match Test series of Sri Lanka in April - May. He chose to play in the three-match ODI series against Sri Lanka at home and even chose to play in the DPL, but he had to withdraw from the competition after worsening the injury. According to Cricbuzz, Tamim had already visited with Australian surgeon David Young, who advised him to take a break. Tamim may also opt-out of the home T20Is against Australia and New Zealand in order to heal in time for England's tour.

“Recovery will take time, (Skipping T20Is) will depend on how I cope with the pain in the series and then the medical team will make a call,” said Tamim to Cricbuzz.

According to the information given by the team management, Tamim is suffering from a grade one tear. Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) physician Debashish Chowdhury said Tamim would recover after a substantial amount of rest.

“Tamim's injury is not something that requires surgery. If he rests for some time we are hoping that he will fine because everything depends on the reduction of his pain and to make that happen rest is the only 'treatment' for him,” he said.

“But if he continues to play with the pain without being totally cured then the level of injury may increase and surgery may be required and in that case he may have to go off the field for a long time. So we need to make sure that the injury is healed totally,” he added.
