All-rounder Shakib Al Hasan has apologised after kicking, breaking and uprooting the stumps at a Dhaka Premier League match on Friday.
The unprecedented reaction of Shakib ensued after umpire Imran Parvez turned down a leg before wicket appeal at the fifth over in the match between Abahani and Mohammed. Later, Shakib himself uprooted the stumps once the umpire halted the match due to rain in the following over.
The incident soon went viral on social media and fans started to criticise his reaction.
Shakib was quick to apologise for the incident and wrote on his verified Facebook account: “Dear fans and followers, I am extremely sorry for losing my temper and ruining the match for everyone and especially those who are watching from home. An experienced player like me should not have reacted that way but sometimes against all odds it happens unfortunately. I apologise to the teams, management, tournament officials and organizing committee for this human error. Hopefully, I won't be repeating this again in the future. Thanks and love you all.”
Earlier on his way to the dressing room, the ace allrounder locked into altercation with Abahani coach and former captain of Bangladesh cricket team Khaled Mahmud.
Shakib, however, went to Abahani dressing room and apologised to Khaled Mahmud after the incident.
Abahani manager Masud Iqbal said, “Shakib came to our dressing room. He apologised to us for the incident. Khaled Mahmud was also there and they have patched the things up. They both hugged.”
