Shakib Al Hasan, a veteran cricketer from Bangladesh, has made headlines for his on-field behavior during a match between Abahani Limited and Mohammedan Sporting Club in DPL Friday.
After the umpire denied a lbw call, he lost his cool and was spotted kicking the stumps in frustration while engaged in a heated conversation with the umpire and later uprooted the stumps with his hands again after the umpire called a halt to the game in the sixth over owing to rain.
Meanwhile, it has also been seen that the left-hander was also involved in a heated discussion with the Abahani coach Khaled Mahmud who also happens to be the BCB Director.
The cricketing community and fans are not happy with the 34-year-old. Former India cricketer Virender Sehwag has expressed his disappointment with Bangladesh's most established cricketer.
Virender Sehwag is known for his wit on Twitter, and he did it again on this occasion while expressing his displeasure with Shakib's on-field behavior.
Sehwag posted a picture of honorable Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina holding Shakib’s head. The picture is an old one when the Tigers had defeated Australia at home in a Test match.
Former India cricketer Venkatesh Prasad has also lambasted the Bangladesh all-rounder for his "disgusting" behavior and setting a bad example for others, given his stature as an international cricketer.
“Anger is futile, too much anger is destructive. For a player of Shakib's outstanding calibre, behaving so poorly is extremely disgusting. Earlier faced a two year ban after a stellar world cup. A real pity to see such a wonderful player setting a bad example” he tweeted.
However, the southpaw, who is leading the Mohammedan side in the tournament has apologized for his poor behaviour as well after the match.
"Dear fans and followers, I am extremely sorry for losing my temper and ruining the match for everyone and especially those who are watching from home. An experienced player like me should not have reacted that way but sometimes against all odds it happens unfortunately. I apologise to the teams, management, tournament officials and organizing committee for this human error. Hopefully, I won't be repeating this again in the future. Thanks and love you all," Shakib posted on Facebook.
