A strange incident happened in the second match of the three-match T20 series between Bangladesh and Zimbabwe. While Bangladesh’s Mohammad Saifuddin was batting, the middle stump suddenly moved and a bail fell to the ground. Although the umpires pointed out wind as the reason for this incident, Bangladesh cricketer Mohammad Ashraful explained the incident differently.
Zimbabwe batted first and scored 166 runs in the match. In reply, Bangladesh were under pressure losing wickets at regular intervals. Then it was 17.5 overs of Bangladesh’s innings. Bangladesh needs 37 runs off 14 balls before the delivery of the ball. Tendai Chatara was bowling but before his delivery came to Saifuddin, the middle stump automatically moved and the bail fell. And so, after the delivery, Zimbabwe cricketers appealed for hit wicket and Saifuddin was surprised.
The umpires went to third umpire to review the incident and saw that Saifuddin had no contribution behind the move of the stump and the bail. It’s said that the bail fell due to the wind blowing the stump. But this kind of incident in the cricket field didn’t happen before even in the thunderstorms. Even the commentators mentioned the incident as ‘supernatural’.
“Since there is a camera in the middle stamp, the soil in that place is very soft. When Saifuddin stepped back to hit the ball, he stepped back along the middle stump. Then there was a little more pressure on the ground. There the bail didn’t fall only, the middle stump moved also,” Ashraful said.
