Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Habibul Awal Wednesday said voting of Cumilla City Corporation (CuCC) election ended in peaceful manner with enthusiastic participation of voters.
“Voting of Cumilla City Corporation (CuCC) election was held in fair and peaceful manner,” he said.
He made the statement at a briefing regarding CuCC polls at Nirbachan Bhaban in the city's Agargaon area.
"Vote at the centers was held peacefully with 60 percent turnout of voters," he said.
In response to a question from the journalists about the alleged slow voting activities during the polls, Awal said Electronic voting machine (EVM) was not slow and those who are elderly people had a little problem.
As a result, voting was a bit slow, he continued. “We did not get any negative review from anyone regarding the elections,” he said.
A total of 149 candidates, including five mayoral and councilor posts both general and reserved, contested in the polls.
The voter number in the city corporation area is 229,920 including the new 22,000 voters. Of them, 112,826 are male, 117,092 female and two are third gender.
