UP panel chairman gunned down in Rajbari

Gani Mandal was returning home from the local market on Wednesday night when a group of armed assailants shot at him indiscriminately right in front of his house before fleeing the spot

Unknown assailants have gunned down Gani Mandal, panel chairman of Daulatdia union parishad, right in front of his house in Goalanda upazila of Rajbari. 

The local representative died while undergoing treatment at Enam Medical College Hospital in Savar at 11:30am on Thursday, confirmed Taibur Rahman, secretary of Daulatdia union parishad.

According to witnesses, Gani Mandal was returning home from the local market on Wednesday night when a group of armed assailants shot at him indiscriminately right in front of his house before fleeing the spot. 

Locals rescued him in critical condition and rushed him to the Goalanda Upazila Health Complex.

Nitai Kumar Ghosh, a doctor at the Goalanda Upazila Health Complex, said Gani Mandal was referred to Faridpur Medical College Hospital for better treatment. “From there he was taken to Enam Medical College and Hospital  where he succumbed to his injuries.”

Goalanda Ghat police station OC Abdullah Al Taybi said it was not yet clear who attacked Gani Mandal. “However, those involved in the incident will be identified and brought under the law.”
