Expressing frustration over the course of politics in Bangladesh, which is standing on the doorstep of the golden jubilee of independence, President Abdul Hamid called upon the politicians to return to the ideals of Bangabandhu and devote themselves in need of the country.

Speaking on the occasion of the centenary of the birth of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and the golden jubilee of independence at the National Parade Ground on Wednesday, the President said, “Today we are celebrating 50 years of independence. There have been many ups and downs in politics at this time. But we have to think about how much qualitative change has taken place in politics. The party is bigger than the individual, the country is bigger than the party - this is the main ideology of politics. But nowadays politics seems to be moving in the opposite direction.

"Some opportunists have turned politics into a profession. Politics and profession are not one thing. Through occupation, a person makes a living for himself and his family. And politics is a great field to work for the welfare of the country and the people. So, if you think of politics as a profession, you have to forget about the country and the people and move within the boundaries of yourself and your family.”

Abdul Hamid said, "On this day of Bangabandhu's 101st birth anniversary, therefore, I will call upon the politicians to learn from the lifestyle and deeds of Bangabandhu and engage them in the service of their country and people."

The National Implementation Committee has celebrated the birth centenary of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman with a 10-day program on the theme 'Mujib Chiranton' on the golden jubilee of Mujib Year and Independence.

The theme of Bangabandhu's birthday celebration on Wednesday is: 'Break the door, come radiantly'. President of Maldives Ibrahim Mohammed Salih addressed the function as a special guest under the chairmanship of Sheikh Hasina.

In a video message, Chinese President Xi Jinping and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga greeted each other.

Speaking as the chief guest on the first day of the colorful event, the President called for preserving the memory and memorial of the Father of the Nation.

He said, “Through the celebration of the birth centenary, from generation to generation, Bangabandhu's immense sacrifice and boundless courage for independence will be known. In response to the call of the Father of the Nation, those who participated in the liberation war were his colleagues had the opportunity to see and know him directly, most of them are not alive today. For all those who are alive, life is in the evening today.

"Therefore, through the implementation of the action plan adopted on the occasion of the centenary, invaluable memories and memorabilia of the Father of the Nation must be preserved so that future generations can know the glory of the Bengali nation and the unique ballads of boundless courage and patriotism of their predecessors and enlighten themselves in that light."

Abdul Hamid, a political activist of Bangabandhu, said, “Nothing could distract him from his goal of personal and family happiness or luxury. If Bangabandhu wanted, he could have immersed himself in wealth. But he reluctantly rejected all these and took the interests of the country and the people, that is, the Bengalis and Bangladesh, as his vow of life. ”

The President said, “Bangabandhu was brought to President Yahya Khan, Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto, and General Akbar himself at 8 am on November 11, 1971 while he was in Pakistan jail. Yahya's idea was that Bangabandhu would come to him and soften for fear of his life and on that occasion, he would get a compromise offer. He raised his hand in this mind and came forward towards Bangabandhu.

"But Bangabandhu said, 'Sorry, he has Bengali blood on his hand, I can't touch that hand'. Only a great hero can make such a bold statement while standing in front of death. If we love our country and our people more than individuals and families, we can conquer death and sing the song of freedom and liberation. ”

Thanking the organizers, the President said, "Special thanks to the National Implementation Committee and the Armed Forces Department for celebrating the birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at the National Parade Square adjacent to Tejgaon Old Airport, which commemorates Bangabandhu's return home."
