Dhaka University VC Professor Md Akhtaruzzaman said that the precondition for students to stay at the university halls is to get vaccinated. However, if someone has a physical condition that interferes with the vaccine, they will be excused based on a doctor's prescription.
He made the remarks at a press conference in the lounge adjacent to his office after a meeting of the Academic Council on Tuesday.
Prof Md Akhtaruzzaman said that there will be no big (final) examination in the university before May 17.
"We made the decision as the government said teachers and students are likely to be vaccinated by May 17. We learned that the antibodies start working four weeks after the first dose of vaccine, for that reason we urged the government to vaccinate teachers, students, staff and employees by April 17," he added.
So, the examination and normal class activities will be scheduled two weeks after the students get into the halls on May 17. The residential halls were scheduled to open on March 13 and the final examination was scheduled for later, but that has been changed as per the recent decision.
The DU VC further said that the precondition for returning to DU hall is to get vaccinated. Those who have physical problems will be considered on the basis of showing doctor's prescription.
Residential students in various halls of DU have demanded the administration to reopen the hall by February. A press conference will be held soon to inform about the next steps based on the decision of the Academic Council, said the residential students of the hall.
