Special mango train starts operation today

The Bangladesh Railway is set to launch a special mango train from Chapainawabganj to Dhaka for the fifth time today (June 10) for transporting mangoes at a low cost.

This is the first time that the train will run through the Padma Bridge. The train will depart from Rahanpur in Chapainawabganj at 4:00 pm and will reach Dhaka at 2:30 am.

According to the Western Railway authorities, 28.83 tonnes of mangoes can be transported in this special train through six luggage vans.

The train will stop at 15 stations, starting from Rahanpur and including Chapainawabganj, Rajshahi, Abdulpur, Ishurdi, Poradaha, Rajbari, Faridpur, and Bhanga.

The fare per kilogram of mangoes from Chapainawabganj to Dhaka is Tk1.47, from Rajshahi it is Tk1.43, from Rajbari Tk1.7, from Faridpur Tk1.1, and from Bhanga it will be Tk0.98.

Chapainawabganj Railway Station Master Md. Obaidullah said 28.83 metric tons of mangoes can be transported daily through six luggage vans. From Chapainawabganj to Dhaka, one kg of mangoes will cost Tk 1.47 while Tk1.43 from Rajshahi.

He also said that unlike last year, instead of starting Cattle Special Train this year, sacrificial animals will be transported along with mangoes in this train.
