The government of South Korea has imposed a ban on visas for Bangladesh citizens.
The decision comes as there has been an upswing in Covid-19 cases among the citizens of the South Asian nation visiting the southern half of the Korean Peninsula recently.
The Bangladesh Embassy in South Korea confirmed the matter in a press statement on Friday.
The ban will come into effect from Friday, it said.
Earlier last week, the South Korean embassy in Dhaka issued a notice that the country’s government would emphasised on taking the highest cautionary measure to be free from coronavirus.
On June 23 last year, the East Asian country imposed an indefinite ban on visa issuance and flight operations from Bangladesh for the first time due to the coronavirus pandemic.
However, Bangladesh was able to lift the embargo after eight months on February 8, 2021, through diplomatic efforts.
