Sheikh Hasina-Modi meeting: Optimism to strengthen the relationship between the two countries

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi have expressed their desire to strengthen the existing bilateral relations between the two neighboring countries in the future. Foreign Minister Dr. Hasan Mahmud said in a press briefing in the morning that the two leaders expressed hope that the existing bilateral relations will deepen in the coming days.

This expectation was expressed in a private meeting between the two prime ministers after the swearing-in ceremony of the Modi government's cabinet on Sunday (June 9) evening.

Dr. Mahmud said, in a very warm and friendly atmosphere, the Prime Minister of Bangladesh invited his Indian counterpart to visit Bangladesh at a convenient time in the meeting held at Rashtrapati Bhavan.

He said that bilateral relations between Bangladesh and India have reached new heights under the visionary leadership of Sheikh Hasina and Narendra Modi.

The Foreign Minister said that later the two Prime Ministers attended the banquet hosted by the President of India Draupadi Murmu at the Rashtrapati Bhavan.

Hasan Mahmud said, senior ministers of India, delegation of Bangladesh, invited government and heads of state attended the dinner. There they had a brief exchange.

The foreign minister said that they exchanged pleasantries during the reception.

Narendra Modi has been running his country for the last 10 years and Sheikh Hasina has been running her government for 15 years now and to a question about expectations and achievements from each other, the foreign minister said, Bangladesh and India have a multifaceted relationship.

He said that many issues are involved between the two countries. Since both governments continue to run the country, there are advantages to working together.

Dr. Hasan Mahmud said that the people of both the countries are benefiting from various aspects including communication from the friendly relations between the two countries.

The foreign minister expressed hope that our multi-dimensional relations will expand and deepen in the future.

In the briefing, among others, the High Commissioner of Bangladesh in India. Mustafizur Rahman and Prime Minister's Press Secretary Naeemul Islam Khan were present.
