During the bilateral meeting in Dhaka, it was agreed to operate direct ships and flights from Bangladesh to the Maldives.
Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen made the remarks at a joint press conference after a summit meeting between Maldivian President Ibrahim Mohammed Salihar and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Thursday.
He said direct flights from Dhaka to Male would start soon. Shipping between Chittagong and Male will also start soon.
At the summit, four Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) were signed between Bangladesh and Maldives in the presence of Sheikh Hasina and Ibrahim Salihar. Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) were signed to form a joint commission to enhance mutual cooperation, strengthen communication at the foreign secretary level, assist in the extraction of fisheries and marine resources, and exchange cultural activities.
Ibrahim Salih arrived in Bangladesh on Wednesday to attend the birth anniversary of Bangabandhu and the golden jubilee of independence.
