Education Minister Dr. Dipu Moni has said the date of reopening educational institutions may be deferred if the infection of Covid-19 keeps rising in the country.

"We are observing the situation. The date of reopening educational institutions may be deferred if the corona infection continues to rise," she said, adding that the safety of students, teachers and other concerned comes first.

The minister came up with the remark following a growing number of Covid-19 cases were recorded in recent days.

Earlier on 27 February, the government had announced to reopen all primary, secondary and higher secondary educational institutions on March 30.

Meantime, the coronavirus infection rate across the country hiked significantly in recent days.

In the last 24 hours, the country confirmed 13 more deaths from the novel coronavirus.

The country's death toll from the virus now stands at 8,515, said a press release issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) on Friday.

In the last 24 hours, 1,066 people tested positive for Covid-19 and the number of novel coronavirus cases in the country now stands at 555,222.
