Different political parties and labour rights bodies on Monday continued protest programmes in Dhaka demanding trials of those responsible for killing 52 workers and wounding dozens in the Narayanganj factory fire.
The fire broke out in Hashem Foods Limited factory on Thursday, at Bhulta of Rupganj in Narayanganj.
The Dhaka committee of the Communist Party of Bangladesh held a protest rally at Purana Paltan crossing where its president Mosleh Uddin chaired.
General secretary of the party Mohammad Shah Alam said that the owners of the factory were responsible for the fire as they did not ensure the safety of the factory.
He demanded trials of the owners and officials of the labour directorate in charge of killing the factory workers.
Dhaka Committee general secretary Sajedul Huq Rubel called on political parties and labour rights bodies to be vocal against the fire killings.
CPB central leaders Ruhin Hossain Prince, Kazi Ruhul Amin, Luna Noor and others spoke at the rally.
Gono Forum faction led by Mostofa Mohsin Montu also demanded trials of the people responsible for the killing of the workers.
The spokesman of the party Subrata Chowdhury in a press statement called on the government to take immediate steps to stop deaths of workers in factory accidents.
A team of Left Democratic Alliance leaders visited the factory and talked with the affected workers and their family members.
Coordinator of LDA, Bazlur Rashid Firoz led the team comprised of CPB central leader Abdullah Kafee Ratan, Revolutionary Workers Party general secretary Saiful Huq, United Communist League general secretary Mosharraf Hossain Nannu and others.
Jatyatabadi Sramik Dal, labour front of Bangladesh Nationalist Party held a protest rally in front of the National Press Club, where orgnising secretary of the party Syed Emran Saleh Prince called on the government to bring the owners of the factory to trial.
He demanded sufficient compensations for the affected workers in the fire.
Chaired by the president of Sramik Dal, Anwar Hossain, central leaders Firoz-uz-Zaman Mollah, Monjurul Islam Monju, Abul Kalam Azad, Rafiqul Islam and others spoke at the rally.
