Prime Minister's visit to India: Issues to be discussed

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is going on a two-day visit to India tomorrow Friday to promote relations between the two neighboring countries. Where the two Prime Ministers will hold a formal meeting on the long pending issues between the two countries. The meeting will focus on economic cooperation, connectivity and energy issues. It is known that the direction of the relationship between the two close neighbors will be given in the meeting.

Apart from Prime Minister Narendra Modi's official meeting with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, a private meeting will be held at Hyderabad House in Delhi on Saturday. After the meeting between the two Prime Ministers, preparations are underway to sign at least 14 agreements and MoUs. In all, more than 10 agreements and MoUs may be signed. At least four of these are due for renewal at the end of their term. These agreements and MoUs cover various areas of cooperation including energy, connectivity, economy.

In this regard, Foreign Secretary Masud bin Momen said, 'where the two countries want to take this relationship in the future, there will be a direction in the meeting of the two top leaders. Some kind of fantasy will come up in their discussion. There will be a direction for our cooperation in the future in new areas including connectivity, environment, space in a wider sense.'

Talking to the officials of Bangladesh, it is known that in this bilateral meeting, besides discussing new areas of cooperation, Bangladesh will discuss issues such as the Teesta water distribution agreement, complete cessation of border killings.

Regarding the Teesta Agreement, Foreign Secretary Masood Bin Momen said that at the current stage of the Teesta Agreement, nothing positive will happen in the near future. But on the bright side, India has recently shown interest in conservation or development projects around the Teesta.

Bangladesh-India Friendship Bridge is one of the projects to be announced in the Hasina-Modi summit. This bridge will establish a link between Ramgarh in Khagrachari, Bangladesh and Sabrum in Tripura state, India.

According to a circular published by the Prime Minister's office on Thursday afternoon, India's Foreign Minister S Jaishankar will pay a courtesy call on Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in Delhi on Friday evening on the first day of the visit. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will be given a formal welcome at Rashtrapati Bhavan in Delhi on Saturday morning. The Prime Minister will take the armed salute and inspect the guard of honour. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will then lay wreaths and sign the visitation book at Mahatma Gandhi's mausoleum at Rajghat.

After that, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will go to Hyderabad House to attend the summit meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. A private meeting between the Prime Minister of India and the Prime Minister of Bangladesh will be held at Hyderabad House. Apart from this, there is a plan to organize a state lunch in honor of the Prime Minister of Bangladesh. In the afternoon, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will meet Indian Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar at his office.

After the meeting with the Vice President, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will again go to the Rashtrapati Bhavan of India. At this time, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will have a private meeting with Indian President Draupadi Murmu.

After the two-day visit, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will leave Delhi's Palam Airport for Dhaka in a special Bangladesh Biman flight on Saturday evening.

Bangladesh Central Bank Governor Abdur Rauf Talukdar is accompanying the Prime Minister to Delhi on this visit. In addition, it is worth noting that the Secretary of Economic Relations (Economic Relations) Department of Bangladesh. Shahriar Quader Siddiqui is also in the delegation for this tour.

Besides, among the senior officials in the Bangladesh delegation, the senior secretary of Power Division (Electricity Division) Mr. Habibur Rahman, Secretary of the Ministry of Railways. Mohammad Humayun Kabir, Principal Staff Officer of the Armed Forces (Army) Lt. Gen. Mizanur Rahman Shamim, Colonel Mohammad Tariqul Islam of the Directorate of Operations and Plans of the Army and others. Rahman, Ambassador-at-Large in the Prime Minister's Office Mohammad Ziauddin, Bangladesh Minister of State for Posts, Telecom and Information Technology Junaid. Ahmed Palak, Commerce State Minister Ahsanul Islam. Kazi Zafarullah, presidium member of Bangladesh's ruling party Awami League, is also accompanying the prime minister on his trip to Delhi as a 'prominent personality'.
