The Dhaka-Chittagong highway has seen a flood of homebound people on Eid. The vehicle is decelerating sharply as pressure builds up. Cars are running stop-and-go throughout the Comilla section of the highway. As a result, people at home are suffering.
Although there was some traffic on Friday morning (June 14), it increased as the afternoon progressed. After the Friday prayers, the pressure on the car became intense. Both lanes of the highway witnessed the same scene.
From Daudkandi in Comilla to Padua Bazaar on the highway, the cars are running non-stop. Around 11 am, garment workers blocked the highway in Chandina section demanding salary bonus. As a result, 10-12 km long traffic jam was created. After a couple of hours, when the blockade was lifted, the traffic began to ease. However, due to the sudden increase in the pressure of the vehicle, there has been a slowdown.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Daudkandi Highway Police Station Shahinul Alam, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Elliotganj Highway Police Station Manjurul Alam and Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Mainamati Highway Police Station Iqbal Bahar told Dhaka Post that after Friday prayers, there was a lot of traffic on the highway. In Chandina, there was no vehicular snarl caused by the workers' blockade, but there was severe slowdown.
Superintendent of Police of Highway Police Comilla Region Khairul Alam told Dhaka Post that a coordinated unit of the police is working to normalize traffic. The increased pressure on the vehicle caused the deceleration. Hope traffic will be normal soon.
