Dhaka Police Commissioner Md Shafiqul Islam has been admitted to hospital with coronavirus infection. He contracted the infection on March 6, about a month after being vaccinated against the coronavirus. He was admitted to Rajarbagh Central Police Hospital on the same day.

Additional Commissioner (Media) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police Iftekhairul Islam told on Wednesday, “He was taken to Rajarbagh Central Police Hospital as he was feeling ill. There, his test came back positive.”

Iftekhairul Islam said that the police commissioner had taken the vaccine on February 7, the day the mass vaccination started in the country. "His health condition is good now, there is no problem". Iftekhairul Islam added.

Director of Rajarbagh Central Police Hospital DIG Hasanul Haider told, “Even if vaccinated, some people can get coronavirus. We will test his covid again after 12/13 days of admission.  Earlier, the Secretary of Disaster Management and Relief. Mohsin was infected with coronavirus 12 days after he was vaccinated.

Additional Director General of the Department of Health, Prof. Nasima Sultana said at the time that a portion of those who were vaccinated could also be infected. It has been seen in clinical trials and can occur in all types of vaccines.

she said, "besides, even a single dose of vaccine will not work completely. Give two doses. Only after giving two doses will it be understood how much the vaccine will prevent infection. If vaccinated, the severity will decrease even if infected.”

Oxford-AstraZeneca coronavirus vaccine made at the Serum Institute of India is being given in Bangladesh. Everyone should take two doses of this vaccine. AstraZeneca said the vaccine had been shown to be safe in clinical trials and had provided effective protection to 80 percent of the volunteers.
