PM to honor three individuals, one org Mother Language Padak

The International Mother Language Medal was awarded for the first time to three individuals and one organization, including National Professor Mohammad Rafiqul Islam, for their contribution to the preservation, revival, development, practice, and propagation of the mother tongue.
Professor Mohammad Rafiqul Islam received this award in 2021 for his contribution to the preservation, revival, and development of the mother tongue at the national level.
Besides, Mathura Bikash Tripura, Executive Director of Jabarang Kalyan Samiti, Khagrachhari, has received the International Mother Language Medal for its contribution to the preservation of the language of minorities at the national level.
At the international level, Uzbek researcher Ismailov Gulam Mirzayevich and Bolivian online enterprise Activizmo Lenquas, which works with native Latin American languages, received the Bangladesh government's award this year.
Education Minister Dipu Moni handed over the medal on behalf of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at a function organized at the International Mother Language Institute on the occasion of International Mother Language Day on Sunday. The Prime Minister was present on the occasion through a video conference from Ganobhaban.

The award was given for the first time this year after the government decided to award the International Mother Language Medal. Two medals will be awarded at the national level and two at the international level every two years.

Professor Mohammad Rafiqul Islam, the 87 years-old linguist, writer has actively participated in the language movement. He also captured rare photographs of that time.
The former vice-chancellor of the University of Liberal Arts once served as the director-general of the Bangla Academy. In 2016, the government made him a national professor.
Professor Rafiqul Islam has previously been awarded the Ekushey Award, the Independence Day Award, and the Bangla Academy Award.
Mathura Bikash Tripura, another Bangladeshi who received the first International Mother Language Medal, has worked for the preservation, revival, development and development of various languages in Bangladesh.
According to the International Mother Tongue Institute, Ismailov Gulm Mirzayevich, a citizen of Uzbekistan, has played a unique role in the study of his mother tongue. Its role in the spread, preservation, and cultural development of the Uzbek language is paramount.
In addition to linguistics, socio-economic and historical contexts are important in his work. Ismailov Gulam Mirzayevich has been leading various projects to consolidate the position of Uzbek as a mother tongue in the world.
Bolivian Activismo Lenquas is working to spread the local languages of Latin America through the Internet. There is no office of this organization, everyone involved in this initiative works virtually.

The journey of Activizmo Lanquis began in 2014 after the first conference of Indigenous Language Digital Activists in Mexico. The organization continues to play an important role in the preservation, dissemination and research of the mother tongues and old languages of the indigenous peoples of the Latin-speaking region of America.
Miss Beatrice Khaldun, UNESCO Bangladesh Representative, joined the event through video conferencing.
Minister of Education Dipu Moni, Deputy Minister of Education Mahibul Hasan Chowdhury, Secretary of the Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Department of the Ministry of Education Md. Mahbub Hossain, Director General of Bangla Academy Habibullah Sirajit, International Language Institute Ali, and other senior officials were present.
