Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will make her second visit to India in a month on June 21 to hold talks with her Indian counterpart Narendra Modi.

PM Hasina came to New Delhi to attend the oath-taking ceremony of Prime Minister Narendra Modi on June 9 and therefore her next trip comes in less than a fortnite.

Bangladesh has been keen on setting up a bilateral meeting between Hasina and Modi before the former departs for China in July as part of Dhaka’s efforts to strike a balance with the two nations, according to a report by Hindustan Times.

The Bangladeshi prime minister’s official visit to India will be the first bilateral held by India under the Modi 3.0 government.

What will the two leaders discuss?

The one-day-long summit between the two leaders will centre on defence partnership, cross-border connectivity, trade, among other things.

According to a report by the Economic Times, the two sides will also discuss holding a joint military exercise.

India has already offered a $500 million line of credit to Dhaka which is yet to be utilised.

PM Modi and Hasina will also review the overall bilateral relationship along with assessing the various developmental projects undertaken by both countries including road, rail and connectivity.

The two leaders will also discuss the renewal of the Ganges Water Sharing Treaty and the development of the cross-border Teesta River.

PM Modi to visit Dhaka

Meanwhile, PM Modi will also go to Bangladesh for yet another meeting with Hasina. The dates of the trip have not been finalised yet.

Modi will make the official visit at the invitation of the Bangladeshi prime minister who requested him to visit Dhaka at his swearing-in ceremony.
