The implementation of "Power Distribution System Development Project in Three Hill Districts" under Bangladesh Power Development Board (PDB) is progressing at a fast pace. Work on the project is currently nearing completion.
If the project is fully implemented, the entire Chattogram Hill Tracts region (Rangamati, Bandarban and Khagrachhari) will come under electrification. In this way, the promise of the Prime Minister to provide electricity to every household will be fully implemented. The backward and backward hilly areas will be illuminated by the light of electricity and the people of these areas will be able to move forward towards development.
The ongoing work of this project worth a total of 565 crore 67 lakh 70 thousand taka is almost at the final stage.
Out of the total 18 substations under the project, 12 33/11 KV (rural type) substations are under new construction and 4 33/11 KV (regular type) substations are being upgraded.
Meanwhile, 13 substations have been set up in three districts. The remaining three substations at Bilaichhari, Jurachhari and Naikhiangchhari will be opened soon, project office sources said.
According to project office sources, work on some power lines is still unfinished. However, these works will be completed in a very short time.
On Friday the Vedvedi 33/11 KV 10 MVA substation located in Rangamati district headquarters was upgraded to 20 MVA substation.
Earlier on Thursday, a 33/1 KV substation was set up in the remote Langadu upazila of Rangamati district.
The substations are being constructed by the contractor Messrs. Edex Corporation, said the engineers involved in the project.
The project is implementing the promise of the present government to provide electricity to the households by constructing power lines and substations in remote hilly areas of different upazilas in the three hill districts.
The project is being implemented expeditiously due to the tireless work of the officers-employees and contractors involved in the project.
The implementation of the project started from the financial year 2017-2018.
Project Director Ujjal Barua said the construction of power lines and sub-stations in remote hilly areas is a daunting task. It is very difficult to transport goods, electric heavy poles, wires and transformers.
We are working relentlessly to provide electricity services to the marginalized people, said Ujjal Barua. He expressed hope that the implementation of the project would be completed by next December.
