On this day in 1971, it was decided to make the ever-known Shapla our national flower. The announcement was made at a meeting of artists organized at Kala Bhaban of Dhaka University at the invitation of artist Kamrul Hasan. At the end of the announcement, they distributed protest posters, banners and festoons to make the freedom-loving people more enthusiastic.

On March 11, 1971, the then Secretary-General of the United Nations, U Thant, issued a directive that all UN staff working in East Pakistan should return to their headquarters. Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman reacted strongly to this directive. Angry Bangabandhu said, the people of Bangladesh also live in this world. They also have the responsibility of the United Nations.

On the other hand, the activities of the Pakistani forces gradually came to a standstill. As a result of continuous non-cooperation movement, the Pakistani military junta in East Bengal began to suffocate. After the hoisting of the flag at the beginning of March and the reading of the proclamation, the aspirations of the Bengalis for independence became more intense.

Professionals took part in the movement on the way. On this day, the Civil Service Association of East Pakistan expressed solidarity with the Bengali independence movement. They announced a one-day salary to fund the movement. Artists, journalists, writers and workers all took to the streets on this day. He kept the highways of Dhaka intoxicated with slogans. The East Pakistan Journalists Union took to the streets to strengthen the movement and make it more organized. Crowds chanted anti-Pakistan slogans.

The Charushilpa Sangram Parishad (CSP) was formed on this day under the leadership of artists Murtaza Bashir and Qayyum Chowdhury. This council played a special role in the freedom struggle.

The days of March 1971 were tumultuous, full of anxiety and fear. Seven and a half crore Bengalis were revolving in a whirlpool of instability and uncertainty. Everyone was worried about what would happen, what was going to happen. Blocked masses.
