Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) Vice-Chancellor (VC) Dr Md Sharfuddin Ahmed Tuesday said that no Monkeypox patient has been detected in the country yet.

"No patient of Monkeypox is detected yet. Don't be panicked with any rumor regarding it," he said while reading a written statement to this end at an emergency press conference held at BSMMU here.

In his written statement, he also mentioned that a post went viral on Facebook platform on Monday last saying that the first patient of Monkeypox was identified at BSMMU, which is a rumor nothing else.

BSMMU VC sought cooperation from the media personnel and Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC), a specialized branch of Bangladesh Police, in curbing the rumors regarding the spread of Monkeypox in Bangladesh and finding the rumor-mongers.

"There is no information about the admission of Monkeypox patients in our database," he reiterated.
