Professor Dr AKM Shamsuzzaman, director of National Institute of Laboratory Medicine and Referral Center (NILMRC), has died of Covid-19.
He breathed his last at Sheikh Russel National Gastroliver Institute & Hospital today morning, his son Sadik Shaikh confirmed in a Facebook post.
Professor Shamsuzzaman was also director of Communicable Diseases Control of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
His laboratory carried out the highest number of coronavirus tests during the pandemic.
Bangladesh Health Reporters' Forum President Toufiq Maruf and General Secretary Rashed Rabbi expressed deep shock at his death. They also prayed for he departed soul.
