A Dhaka court today (June 3) issued an arrest warrant against Md Siam Hossain, one of the prime suspects in lawmaker Anwarul Azim Anar murder case.
Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Mahbubul Haque issued the order today as the investigation officer (IO) of the case submitted a petition to issue a warrant against Siam on Sunday.
In the application, the IO said that Siam was earlier arrested in Nepal in connection with the case. If an arrest warrant is issued against him, it will be easy to bring Siam back to Bangladesh.
On May 22, MP Anar's daughter Mumtarin Ferdous Dorin filed the case with Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station in Dhaka.
Siam, who had fled to Kathmandu following the killing, is from Borhanuddin in Bhola.
Akteruzzaman Shahin, identified by the police as the mastermind behind the murder, travelled from Dhaka to Kathmandu via Delhi on May 20. Subsequently, he moved to Dubai and later flew back to the US.
MP Anar travelled to India on May 12, spending one night at his friend Gopal Biswas's house. The next day, he left, stating he needed to visit a doctor.
Later, Gopal received texts from Azim's mobile phone, indicating that Anar was heading to Delhi and that Gopal need not contact him.
On May 22, the police forces of India and Bangladesh confirmed that the lawmaker had been murdered.
