Foreign Minister AKM Abdul Momen has said that the visit of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the occasion of Bangabandhu's birth centenary and golden jubilee of independence will be just a celebration and they do not want to raise unresolved issues between the two countries. The foreign minister was responding to a question from reporters after a function at Hotel Intercontinental in Dhaka on Friday.
He said, “Narendra Modi is coming, we are very happy about that. Not only him, I saw four more heads of state and government coming. Heads of state and government of Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bhutan, Maldives and India are coming. We are very happy, it shows the height of diplomatic maturity and achievement. ”
The celebration of the centenary of the birth of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was supposed to be held on a large scale at the national level on March 16 last year. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi was also scheduled to attend the event. But due to the coronavirus epidemic, everything was suspended.
On the occasion of Subarna Jayanti, a number of events have been organized at the national level for ten days from March 18 to 26 this month. The Indian Prime Minister is scheduled to arrive in Dhaka on March 26 to attend. The next day he is scheduled to visit the Jessoreswari temple in Satkhira, Bangabandhu's tomb at Tungipara in Gopalganj and a temple belonging to the Matua community at Orakandi in Kashiani.
Those who want to know whether there will be any MoU with Modi during this visit are described by the foreign minister as an 'il element'. He said, "They are all united with us, coming to celebrate our Independence Day, Golden Jubilee and Bangabandhu's centenary - this is our greatest achievement." A journalist wanted to know whether there would be any discussion on the long-pending Teesta treaty during the Indian Prime Minister's visit.
In the middle of his speech, the minister said, "Apart from that, what we want is that this is a joyous festival, everyone is coming to our big festival, we are happy about it. And other small things that are ... the kind of big problems we have with India, we've solved all of them through negotiations. And if there are any, we'll do them slowly. But this event shouldn't be an action for resolving .... "
