The meeting held at the United Nations headquarters was attended by the UN Secretary General's Special Envoy for Myanmar, Julie Bishop, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) Filippo Grandi and Bangladesh Foreign Affairs Advisor Towhid Hossain, and related top officials.

Reminding the world leaders, the chief adviser said that Bangladesh has sheltered about 1.2 million Rohingya refugees and 32 thousand new children are being born every year. More than 20,000 new refugees have entered Bangladesh recently.
Claiming that the Rohingya crisis is creating social, economic and environmental pressure in Bangladesh, which is also creating security risks, he further said that various UN bodies have taken initiatives for the safe and dignified return of the Rohingyas to Myanmar, but it has not been effective as the root problems of the crisis have not been resolved.
