Awami League General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader Friday said the law enforcement agencies are making their all-out strides to resist the spread of politics of terrorism and criminalization of politics patronized by BNP in the country.
“The Awami League government hasn’t established reign of terrorism in the country rather the law enforcement agencies are working to resist the spread of politics of terrorism,” he said in a statement protesting the comments of BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.
Quader said after the assassination of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman along with most of the family members, military ruler Ziaur Rahman grabbed the state power and established the BNP under the shadow of the military by violating Bangladesh’s constitution and military laws which was completely unlawful.
He said the people of the country had witnessed the omnivorous character of terrorism under the patronization of BNP with the misuse of state machinery.
Whenever BNP came to power, national and international terrorist groups got their patronization, he said, adding that the country had become a safe haven of terrorism with the patronage of BNP and its latest edition was extreme terrorism and militancy.
BNP wanted to rule the people through terrorism after sending principles of politics in exile, he said.
The minister said BNP wanted to turn Bangladesh into a land of international terrorism by bringing 10 trucks of arms.
Through the August 21 grenade attacks in 2004, BNP had violated all courtesies of democratic structure with a view to completely eliminate the opposite opinion, he said.
Quader said under the direct patronization and support of Tarique Rahman, now BNP’s acting chairman, the gruesome grenade attacks were carried out targeting to kill Bangabandhu’s daughter Sheikh Hasina.
On August 17 in 2005, series bombings were launched simultaneously at more than 500 places across the country, he added.
He said now under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Bangladesh, which was earlier a safe haven of terrorism, has turned into a land of peace of harmony to the entire world.
The AL general secretary said his party is always determined to establish rule of law. Under the shadow of party identity, no offender got any support from the party in the past and it will not happen in future too.
Those who will be found involved with Barishal incident will be brought to justice and some of the accused have already been arrested in the incident, he said.
On the other hand, the nation couldn’t forget the tragic memories of state sponsored terrorism during BNP tenure, he said.
Quader said Mirza Fakhrul compared Bangladesh’s entire situation, including development and progress, with Pakistan. But the country’s unprecedented development and progress in every socio-economic index in the last one era under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has attained huge accolades across the world, he said.
World leaders and global experts also recognized Bangladesh as role model of development, he said.
The minister said under the dynamic and able leadership of the premier, Bangladesh remains in a comparatively better position even amid the global crisis of coronavirus pandemic.
Even experts in Pakistan also lauded Sheikh Hasina’s leadership in media and suggested Pakistan to take a lesson from Bangladesh, he said.
Under the circumstances, only the persons who always love Pakistan in every matter can compare Bangladesh with Pakistan, he said.
He urged all who believe in the spirit of Liberation War and democratic values to turn the grief of loss of Bangabandhu into strength in the month of mourning to make united efforts to face all sorts of conspiracies.
