Journalist Rozina gets bail

Journalist Rozina Islam was granted bail. Rozina Islam, a senior reporter of Prothom Alo, who was arrested in a case under the Penal Code and the Official Secrets Act, was heard on Sunday on a bail application. She was granted bail on condition of submitting a bond of Rs 5,000 and a passport.

Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) court granted bail to Rozina Islam. The hearing on journalist Rozina Islam's bail application ended last Thursday. 

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Baki Billah heard the bail application. Lawyers from both sides virtually took part in the nearly hour-long hearing. 

However, the court did not give any immediate decision on that day. The court set a date today for an order on the presentation of state information and bail.

Journalist Rozina Islam was detained at the Ministry of Health for about six hours on May 16 while performing her professional duties. She was handed over to the police of Shahbagh police station around 8.30 pm. A case was filed against him at Shahbagh police station around 12:15 pm.

At the hearing, Rozina Islam's lawyers said the allegations against her were false, fabricated, baseless, fabricated and intentional. She reserves the right to bail. She deserves it. 

However, the prosecution claimed that the clauses of the case were ineligible for bail. Rozina Islam was produced in the Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's Court on May 18 after being arrested in a case filed by Shahbagh Police Station. Police requested to remand him for five days. Following the hearing, the court rejected her remand application and ordered her to be sent to jail. She set Thursday for a further hearing on the bail application. Following this order, Rozina Islam was sent to Kashimpur Women's Jail.
