Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said that the recent Russia-Ukraine war, Israel's advance in Palestine have created new challenges in the Middle East. We have started working on what kind of impact this could have on us. Personally I continue to call for an end to war for world peace.
On Wednesday (June 5) in the budget session of the 2024-25 financial year in the National Parliament, Dr. The Prime Minister made this comment in response to a written question by Shamil Uddin Ahmed Shimul. At this time the speaker presided over the parliament. Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury.
The Prime Minister said that we have not had a coordinated initiative to implement the SDGs since the beginning. As a result, our progress in the global position is satisfactory, but due to the impact of Covid-19, our implementation here, like the rest of the world, faces some challenges. We have been able to deal with the covid-19 pandemic with great skill and resilience, sustaining lives and livelihoods and moving the economy forward. However, post-Covid, the global economic situation continues to change due to sanctions and counter-sanctions centered around the Russia Ukraine war and war. We also have to bear the negative impact of inflation, which is also slowing down the pace of SDG implementation overall. We are trying to deal with this by coordinating monetary policy and fiscal policy.
He said, we are not a country that is petitioning for climate change, but one of the victims. On our own we are implementing adaptation projects. However, implementation of the National Adaptation Plan (2023-2050) requires about US$ 230 billion. Again by 2030, 175 billion US dollars will be required to implement the Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC).
He also said that global financing is one of the challenges in the overall implementation of the SDGs, including addressing the adverse effects of climate change. As we are committed to implementing Vision 2041 and aligning the SDGs with our five-year plan, we are hopeful that by 2030 we will be able to make significant progress towards our priority targets.
