Chief of Army Staff General Waker-Uz-Zaman on Monday said an interim government will be formed to govern the country.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has quit the power, he said.
While briefing the journalists this afternoon, he said: "All murders will be brought to book. Trust the army. We have held meetings with political party leaders."
The army chief urged the people including students to maintain peace and order in the country. "You trust me, let's work together. Please help. I won't get anything by fighting. Avoid conflict. We have built a beautiful country together."
In response to this question of the journalists, the army chief said that he had a meeting with BNP, Jatiya Party and Jamaat-e-Islami. Prof Asif Nazrul and politician Zonayed Saki were also present in the meeting, he added.
Waqar-uz-Zaman said, "We will now go to Bangabhan. There will be a detailed discussion about the formation of the interim government."
Earlier, Sheikh Hasina left the country this afternoon while thousands of protesters demanding her resignation entered her official Ganabhaban residence.
A military helicopter took off from Bangabhaban with Sheikh Hasina at 2:30 on Monday.
