Hefazat-e-Islam's central joint secretary general Maulana Mamunul Haque has blocked at a resort in Narayanganj's Sonargaon upazila along with a woman, locals said. However, Mamunul Haque has claimed that the woman is his wife.
He was blocked in room 501 on the fifth floor of the Royal Resort in the upazila around 3:15 pm on Saturday (April 3).
Confirming the matter, Officer-in-Charge (OC-Investigation) of Sonargaon Police Station Tabidur Rahman said that Mamunul Haque had claimed that the woman was his second wife during the interrogation. We are investigating the matter. Details will be announced later.
Narayanganj Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime) Mosharraf Hossain said locals blocked Mamunul Haque at the resort and informed the police. The police are interrogating them while leaving them in the hotel room.
During the police interrogation, Mamunul Haque claimed that he had come here with his second wife to spend his leisure time. He married the woman two years ago. He was seen arguing with the police.
Earlier, at the National Press Club in the capital on Thursday, the Islamic People's Party demanded the arrest of the central leader of Hefazat-e-Islam and those accused of sabotage in Brahmanbaria. At the same time, the Islamic People's Party warned of a morning-evening hartal on Monday (April 5) if Mamunul is not arrested by next Sunday.
