The government has warned of stern action if any misleading news spreads about public holidays in the wake of the coronavirus epidemic.
The warning was issued in a statement issued on Monday following rumors of an old video being shared on social media.
"An old video of last year's official announcement on March 23, 2020, went viral with a malicious intent," it said. The government will take strict action against those involved in such untrue and misleading information campaigns.
The government announced a general holiday for more than two months last year after the outbreak of covid-19 in the country. After the infection increased again, rumors spread on Sunday that the 10-day general holiday is coming again. The government later said it was not true.
"The government has made it clear that they have not taken any decision on lockdown or public holiday due to the outbreak of covid-related diseases," the statement said.
