At least four people have died after a clash with police at Hathazari Upazila in Chattogram this afternoon. Alauddin Talukdar, assistant sub-inspector of Chattogram Medical College Hospital (CMCH) police outpost confirmed the death toll. He said on duty doctors declared four people dead who were brought from Hathazari. Identities of the deceased could not be known immediately.
Earlier, activists of Hefajat-e-Islam set ablaze the bungalow of Upazila Nirbahi Officer, land office and attacked Hathazari Police Station. They went to Hathazari Police Station with a procession and vandalised the compound of the police facility, said police. Police retaliated after they carried out the attack, according to police sources.
Hefajat activists also set ablaze the UNO bungalow and the land office of the upazila administration "in protest of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Bangladesh visit" after Jummah prayer today. UNO Ruhul Amin confirmed the incident to The Daily Star.
