Dr. Yunus' words are insulting to the people: Law Minister

Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Anisul Haque said, 'Nobel winner Dr. The comments made by Muhammad Yunus are untrue and insulting to the people of Bangladesh.'

The minister told reporters after meeting with the European Union delegation at the secretariat on Wednesday (June 12).

Law Minister said, 'Dr. Many questions came from their country about Yunus' trial process and they wanted to be clarified. Dr. I have told them the cases regarding Yunus. There was a case where he violated workers' rights. He has been sentenced. 108 workers filed a case against him personally.'

He said, 'I told them that the case of tax evasion is considered as an important case by various countries of the world including Western countries. Just like that. Yunus is being prosecuted. If any citizen of the country breaks the law, he will be judged. Yunus is also being judged in the same way. But what he (Dr Yunus) is saying is untrue and insulting to the people of Bangladesh.

Law Minister said, 'Dr. The Anti-Corruption Commission filed a case against Yunus. I said about that case - the case is ongoing in the court. I also told them that the law minister does not say anything about the cases that are pending in court. Another thing I said - there is a tax evasion case against him. In one of his cases he paid taxes after losing all the way to the Appellate Division. Other cases that are there are cases of non-payment of tax.'

The Minister said, 'What are we doing with the European delegation regarding the Labor Act, the Artificial Intelligence Act, the Data Protection Act, the Cyber ​​Security Act, a team came from their Election Commission, what are we thinking in terms of the report in that team, the Rohingya issue and the latest anti-discrimination bill. Discussions have been held with them. They asked me about Yunus Sahib's case. Talked to them about these issues.'

Anisul Haque said, 'They wanted to know when we are going to pass the labor law. I told them - we want the end of the complaint filed against us in the International Labor Court. I told them that we have done enough work on labor laws. Also worked on amendments to labor laws. I think we should end the matter.'

A case has been filed on charges of embezzlement and money laundering of the workers of Grameen Telecom. against Yunus. He was also punished in cases of violation of labor laws. But Dr. Yunus has been claiming that he has not committed any crime.

ACC Public Prosecutor (PP) Mosharraf Hossain Kajal said that 14 convicts including Muhammad Yunus may be sentenced to life imprisonment. He said that the complaint has been framed under Section 409 of the Penal Code. If the charges under this section are proved, the maximum punishment for the accused is life imprisonment. A minimum sentence of 10 years can be imposed.
