The major ferry terminals remain busy on Monday as Eid holidaymakers continue to return to the capital defying coronavirus restrictions.

According to media reports, a large number of passengers, mostly from southern districts, started boarding the ferries plying the Daulatdia-Paturia and Shimulia-Banglabazar routes since early in the morning.

Eighteen ferries were operating on the Shimulia-Banglabazar route since morning, quoting Prafulla Chauhan, manager, Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC), Shimulia ferry terminal.

Vehicles and commuters thronged the ferry terminals to return to Dhaka after the holidays but the crowd was comparatively thinner.

Many commuters faced difficulties at both the ferry terminals due to lack of vehicles and thereby excessive fares.

Motorcycle, CNG and battery-run autorickshaws and pick-up vans were the only vehicles heading towards Dhaka.
