Moin Hossain Raju COURTESY
On the occasion of Raju Day, Bangladesh Students Union, Bangladesh Youth Union, Raju Sangsad, Samajtantrik Chhatra Front, Bangladesh Chhatramaitri and Shaheed Raju's friends and comrades paid homage at the altar of Shaheed Moin Hossain Raju located next to the self-proclaimed independence sculpture of Dhaka University at 8 am today. The student union has demanded justice for Raju's murder.
Moin Hossain Raju, a student union leader, was killed in a shootout between Chhatra League and Chhatra Dal at Dhaka University on 13 March 1992. On that day, a protest procession came out on the campus to protest against terrorism. Raju was killed when terrorists opened fire on the procession. The student union has been observing the day as 'Raju Day against Terrorism'. An 'Anti-Terror Raju Sculpture' has been erected at Dhaka University's TSC in memory of Raju.
After paying homage on Raju Day, a brief exchange of views was held between the former and current leaders of the student union at Madhur Canteen this morning. An anti-terror procession was held at the end of the meeting. The procession started from Madhur Canteen, went around different roads of the university, and ended in front of the altar of Shaheed Raju. Sumaiya Setu, central organizing secretary of the student union, also spoke at the rally, which was chaired by Faizullah, central president of the student union, and conducted by Khairul Hasan, assistant general secretary.
In his speech, Faizullah said, "The terrorism that Moin Hossain Raju was martyred while fighting against terrorism has not stopped even today. Chhatra League terrorism continues on campus. Terrorists are sitting in the state structure. We see its reflection in the death of the writer Mushtaq Ahmed in prison. The government is depriving the people of their freedom of speech through digital security laws. We will continue the fight against terrorism with the oath of Shaheed Moin Hossain Raju. Today, we are demanding justice for the murder of Shaheed Raju and March 13 to be included in the university calendar as anti-terrorism Raju Day.
