The education ministry is going to meet the National Technical Advisory Committee on Covid-19 on Sunday to decide about the continuation of academic activities in the educational institutions of Bangladesh amid the increasing trend of Covid infection, education minister DipuMoni said on Saturday. The decision would be taken considering all relevant issues, she told the reporters after attending a programme in Dhaka.
‘Tomorrow [Sunday] we have a meeting with the National Technical Advisory Committee on Covid-19. We will take a decision by considering the health situation,’ she said. DipuMoni said that it was assumed earlier that the Covid infection rate would rise in March but the infection rate was increasing in the beginning of January.
‘So we may have some adjustments in our planning. But we don’t want to close our educational institutions. We want every student to come to the educational institutions by taking vaccines. We are taking that step also,’ she continued. The minister said that there might be some problems with the students under 12 years of old while the ministry would also take decisions on that matter too. Replying to another question regarding deficiencies in academic activities, she admitted that all faced some deficiencies in academic activities in the last one and a half years while the government had some plans to overcome these.
‘The students had very few in-person classes in the last one and a half years while the most effective way to fill-up this deficiency is to bring them back in in-person classes,’ she said. ‘If the infection rises, the most affected sector will be education,’ DipuMoni said. She urged all to follow the health regulations considering the future of their children.
