Deaths and infections of Covid-19 has registered a sharp rise in the 24 hours to Saturday morning. During the period 195 people died, according to DGHS data.
With the latest development, the total number of deaths reached 19,046 in the country.
With 6,780 people testing positive over the same period, the number of total infections rose to 1,153,344.
The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) revealed the latest figures on Covid-19 in the country with a press release on Saturday.
The latest figures show an infection rate of 32.55pc.
As many as 20,536 samples, including the pending ones, were tested in the 639 authorized labs – government and private – across the country.
To date, 7,417,694 tests have been conducted in the country, leading to an overall infection rate of 13.55pc.
Of the 195 deceased – 103 men and 92 women – 68 were from Dhaka division, 41 from Khulna, 36 from Chattogram, 18 from Rajshahi, 16 from Rangpur, 10 from Mymensingh, five from Barisal, and one from Sylhet division.
One hundred ninety of them died while undergoing treatment at the different hospitals of the country while five died at home.
One of the deceased was aged above 100 , two between 91 and 100, 16 between 81 and 90, 34 between 71 and 80, 47 between 61 and 70, 45 between 51 to 60, 41 between 41 and 50, 16 aged between 31 and 40, two between 11 and 20 and one was aged below 10.
So far, 13,074 men (68.64pc) and 5,972 women (31.36pc) have died from Covid-19 across the country.
Since the beginning, 8,978 people have died in Dhaka division, 3,472 in Chattogram, 1,464 in Rajshahi, 2,465 in Khulna, 581 in Barishal, 672 in Sylhet, 930 in Rangpur, and 484 in Mymensingh.
The mortality rate against the total number of cases detected so far stands at 1.65pc.
The health authorities said 9,723 people recovered from the disease over the preceding 24 hours.
So far, 988,339 patients – 85.69% – have made full recovery across the country.
Currently, 76,755 people are in isolation and 117,957 are quarantined.
Aiming to stem the upsurge of Covid-19 cases and deaths triggered by the Delta variant of coronavirus, Bangladesh on Friday went into another round of strict lockdown for 14 days right after the country celebrated Eid-ul-Azha.
The vaccination programme remained suspended on Friday due to public holidays.
