Cartoonist Ahmed Kabir Kishore has been released on bail after being arrested in a case under the Digital Security Act and spent ten months in jail. Jail Superintendent Abdul Jalil said Kishore was released from Kashimpur Central Jail-2 around 12:15 pm on Thursday. He said, “We received the bail papers around 11 o'clock. After checking and selecting them, the Kishore has been released. ”
At the time of Kishore's release, some of his relatives and friends were waiting outside the prison. After leaving the jail, he left in a white car at around 12:30 pm. He did not speak to reporters outside the jail at the time. Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice Md. Mostafizur Rahman's virtual high court bench on Wednesday granted bail to Kishore for six months, paving the way for his release.
Writer Mushtaq Ahmed, who was arrested along with a teenager in the same case, died at the Kashimpur High Security Jail in Gazipur on February 25. Bail was also sought for Mushtaq along with the teenager in that bench of the High Court. But he died before the hearing. In the wake of the coronavirus crisis, RAB arrested cartoonist Ahmed Kabir Kishore and online writer Mushtaq Ahmed on May 5 last year.
