Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader Sunday said the BNP's slogan - 'let the weapons of the 15 August roar once again' - has exposed its murderous character.

He made the remark while addressing a press conference at his official residence here this morning.

Quader, also the road transport and bridges, said in the name of holding rallies, the BNP and its allies are creating public sufferings in different parts of the country.

He said the BNP leaders in their statements are not showing any decency or courtesy.

They are also chanting indecent slogans against Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, which is not tolerable in any way, the AL general secretary said.

He warned that the consequences of chanting indecent slogans against Bangabandhu's daughter will be terrible.

Quader said BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir is making remarks that the BNP would not join any polls under the AL government.

"The people of Bangladesh do not accept any arrogant and irresponsible remarks of any individual or group. They do not bow down to the bloody eyes and terror of any conspirator," he said.

Quader said BNP founder Ziaur Rahman had mockery with the nation by imposing curfew-brand-democracy violating the country's democratic culture and the people's democratic rights.

At the same time, he said, Zia violated the country's constitution by grabbing both the posts of army chief and the president.

Following the footprint of Zia, the BNP has been carrying on the tradition of ill-politics, he added.

About the next parliament elections, the AL general secretary said the Election Commission (EC) is an independent and constitutional body and the next elections will be held under the EC, not under the government.

Noting that the AL government, led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, would provide necessary support to the EC in holding the polls, he said like in other democratic countries, the next general elections will be held on time in Bangladesh.

About the BNP's demand of a neutral government during the polls, Quader said it is an irrational demand of BNP.

"The BNP is confusing the people raising different demands from time to time. They sometimes demand a national government, then a caretaker government, and sometimes a neutral government. The BNP leaders have spent over a decade trying to find out what the BNP really wants," he said.

About the demand of the caretaker government, the road transport minister said: "This is a settled issue. As per the verdict of the country's apex court, the caretaker government has taken its place in museum."
