A magistrate court in Dhaka on Saturday allowed the police to take main opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party’s Dhaka south unit joint convener Nabiullah Nabi in custody for three days for interrogation in a case filed over Friday’s arson attack on the Benapole Express train in Gopibagh area of the capital that left four people dead.
Metropolitan magistrate Farzana Shakila Sumu passed the order after sub-inspector Ashraful Islam of the detective branch of police produced him before the court, seeking the court’s permission to take him in custody for seven days for interrogation.
Opposing the remand plea, Nabi’s defence lawyer submitted a petition seeking bail for him, but the court rejected the petition after hearing.
Earlier on the day, the chief of the Detective Branch of police and also the additional commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police, Harun-or-Rashid , at a press briefing that six people, including Nabiullah Nabi were arrested in connection with the arson attack on the Benapole Express train.
